Guiding You on the Right Path

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Dear Reader,

My name is Mahin Uddin , and I'd like to welcome you to our Islamic newsletter. Here, we aim to make the teachings of the Quran and Hadith simple and applicable to our daily lives. Our goal is for these lessons to bring peace and prosperity into your world.

Let's begin our first journey with two essential lessons from the Quran and Hadith.

Important Quranic Verse and Its Explanation: The Oath of Time

Have you ever considered how meaningful your life is? Allah has provided a profound answer to this question in a very short yet powerful surah.

Surah Al-Asr (103): Verses 1-3

English Translation: "By the fading day, man is in a state of loss. Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to [hold on to] the truth and advised each other to [be steadfast in] patience."

In this verse, Allah swears by time itself to state that most of humanity is in a state of loss. This is because we often fail to use our precious time wisely. However, those who possess four key qualities are saved from this loss:

  • Faith (Iman): A firm belief in Allah.

  • Righteous Deeds: Putting that faith into action through good works.

  • Advising Truth: Guiding others to the truth and the correct path.

  • Advising Patience: Encouraging each other to be patient and steadfast, especially during challenges.

This surah reminds us of how valuable every moment is. We should strive to build our lives upon these four principles.

Life Lessons from Hadith: The Identity of a Muslim

A profound hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) teaches us what the most important trait of a true Muslim should be.

Hadith:

"A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 10)

This hadith delivers a powerful message. A true Muslim is not just someone who performs acts of worship, but also someone whose conduct is exemplary. We must ensure that no one is harmed by our words (tongue) or our actions (hand).

  • Our Words: We should avoid gossip, insults, or any hurtful speech. Our words should always be kind and constructive.

  • Our Actions: We should not cause physical harm to anyone or damage their property.

The Prophet ﷺ teaches that a true Muslim is someone who radiates safety — with their words and actions.

This hadith teaches us that a Muslim's duty is to maintain peace and harmony in society.

How to Apply the Quran and Hadith in Daily Life

What can we learn from today's two lessons?

  • We should not waste our time. Try to spend a little time each day reciting the Quran and understanding its meaning.

  • Pick one hour each day and consciously dedicate it to one of the four principles: faith, action, truth, or patience. Watch how your day transforms.

  • We should use our words and actions to benefit others, not harm them. Instead of hurting someone, let's offer a smile and a helping hand.

  • Audit your last 24 hours.

    • Did your words uplift or wound?

    • Did your hands (or online behavior) reflect mercy or ego?

Spiritual Upgrade:
Next time you're about to react in anger, pause. Ask yourself: Would the Prophet ﷺ respond like this?

These small steps can make our lives much more meaningful.

Q&A | Reader Questions & Scholar Answers

Q: “If I miss Fajr, is my whole day ruined?”
A: Absolutely not — but it’s a sign to recalibrate.

Missing Fajr is serious, but Islam is a path of mercy. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps through it should pray it as soon as they remember.”
(Sahih Muslim)

💡 What to do:

  • Make up the missed prayer immediately.

  • Reflect on why it happened (late sleep? no alarm?).

  • Set intentional habits to protect Fajr moving forward.

Bonus Tip: Recite the last 2 verses of Surah Al-Baqarah before sleep. They serve as a shield and spiritual reset.

Missing a prayer is not a reason to give up on the rest of the day. It's an opportunity to learn, repent, and renew your commitment to Allah.

We'll be back with more valuable topics in our next issue, Insha'Allah. Until then, take care.

Sincerely,

Mahin Uddin
